Limerick City Breweries

  Limerick City Breweries provides a history of Limerick breweries  The following is a list of breweries which operated in Limerick city from 1739 onwards:

 

Sadly by 1880 all of these breweries had disappeared. Perhaps the main reason for the decline of Limerick's breweries was the opening of the canal from Dublin to Limerick. This allowed  larger breweries such as Guinness to supply Limerick with ale and porter at a price which the local breweries were unable to compete with. In 1895, a proposal to build a new brewery on the dock road was abandoned due to economic reasons.
